gimme gimme

Hello and thanks to new follower.

The shops are decorated, the films are festive and lights are being switched on. None of which I mind as I'm totally able to ignore it all till I'm ready. But I do object to the TV ads which just show object after object that we might like to own. The consumerism of Christmas this year has jarred me for some reason. Maybe because we have been quite poor this year it has made me aware. But I think not as I have never had a lot of money. And yet the jaunty ad's are really irritating me. I'm not religious, had too much of a bellyfull of it as a child. Although the image of nativity advent calenders send me right back. No choc one for me. It was a simple card one from church. Each year I would push the little windows down ready to re use them. I loved the pictures they revealed. The gimme gimme attitude is wrong. Frantic shopping is boring.

It must always have been like this so I don't know why it's bothering me so much. Although I have become intolerant of adverts generally this year. Maybe why I am ignoring all offers from sky to rejoin but gladly pay my bbc license.

Take care all.

  1. I gave up the commercialism of christmas a few years back, I just refuse to get caught up with it all, I dont do christmas shopping I make gifts make some nice foods for us to enjoy, last year we sat in front of the fire eating a selection of seafood for dinner. Christmas for us is spending time together, :-)

    1. You are so right. I don't see my brother and sister much so I love getting together. Home made pressies are lovely although I don't but refuse to spend more than I can afford x

  2. I am not a great fan of the commercialism of Christmas but I do love the religious aspect and find comfort in the birth of Jesus. Each to their own I say. Hold your head high there is no shame in claiming what is rightfully yours.

    1. Definitely. I always feel a bit jealous of people who get comfort from their religion. The nativity is such a beautiful symbol of Christmas. Certainly better than that bloody cocoa cola lorry x

  3. Christmas starting so early irritates me no end. I just like Christmases with carols in the week before Christmas Day, planning a special meal and a tree and that is more or less it, all done a few days before the 25th. I think I must live in the past.

  4. Someone has lights up already on the estate that is near to me. Can you believe it. I like the simplicity you describe. Going for that this year x

  5. Hey Hazzy, I agree with thee upon your view of Christmas and yes this it does seem to be more irritating then ever. Perhaps its because the last few for me have been so unsettled or maybe I'm feeling my age. I'm just looking forward to chilling and kicking back this year. First Christmas for me in a house I'm starting to call home so perhaps things are looking up, though I'm cooking Christmas dinner for the first time ever this year....gulp

  7. The best part of Christmas for me are the family get togethers I just love it when the families are having fun (no arguments in ours). We do presents too but not OTT.
People don't need to know that you're on benefits, it's none of their business. It is hard to make ends meet though.
