Another brick in the wall

Thank you for all your lovely comments yesterday. Hugs are returned in the memory of people you have lost.

Today I am an official government statistic as I signed on for the first time ever. Must have been nervous as I got there 50 minutes early. It was all pretty straight forward, well so far. Maybe because I have everything in place to job hunt. My CV is up to date and I regularly check job vacancies. It's just a matter of recording everything I do now. Quite patronising paperwork to fill in each day bit I realise it's one size fits all. Well it's done anyway.
They were not the ogres I was expecting (so far). Years ago I was in a job centre getting some advice and the lady was so awful and negative that she had me in tears. I think that is where this all stems from.
I know the image is given of work shy people claiming everything they can. But I do believe that is a clever bit of propaganda to divide and conquer the common man. I'm sure there are some that don't want to work but I am troubled for those that truly cannot and are in a conveyor belt of a situation. Myself, I cannot wait to be signed off so I never have to go there again. It was a freaky place and I was brought up in quite a rough area, in fact if anyone attended the Olympics then you would have been treading on my ghosts. Do you think they put them in dodgy areas on purpose?

Another hurdle faced. Up and up now I reckon.

  1. Well done you x. It is only a very tiny minority of people who do not want to work. Most people are desperate to find work and support their families, but we don't hear about them. I used to work for the C.A.B. and there were more people not claiming the benefits they were entitled to, than people claiming benefits they weren't entitled to. As you say, clever propaganda for when the government want to cut benefits. Sorry got all political there, I will get off my soapbox now!

    1. Thanks very much. I think people would rather go without than have the indignities and hassle claiming entails. I certainly have. I agree fully with what you have said. x

  3. Keep thinking positive, I have never claimed any benefit and I know that I am one of the lucky ones, I have however been to the joke center with others who had to claim and it can be very demoralising.

    1. Thanks. It is quite an intrusive and patronising process. Maybe jobs are like buses and a few will all come at once. x

  4. My husband had to claim for a while and I only went with him one time. I don't know how he managed to be calm and polite with patronizing staff treating him like he was stupid! I absolutely hated going in there! I sat down to wait for him and was told as I wasn't the one claiming I couldn't use the chairs! Hope you find something soon x

  5. Hazzy, you are quite right about the attempts to divide and conquer - the establishment need to keep the common people fighting each other - they are afraid of what would happen if we united...

  6. My partner, A had to sign on awhile and dreaded every time she had to return, not a pleasant experience at all, her relief at finding a job was huge.... I'm sure work will come knocking soon at your door.

  8. I have three boys at home and when I asked if we could put them on the paper round waiting list we were told there was a queue of adults waiting for the job never mind the kids.

You will find something soon I'm sure as you are a very willful and independent lady. Don't let the buggers grind you down,

I know someone who was one of the biggest sponging, horrid people I have ever met who now works at the job centre preaching and looking down her nose at everyone. It makes me laugh at what bull she fills everyone with.

Sorry didn't mean to go on, just don't let them preach to you, I would say imagine them naked but I imagine some could be quite scary!
