I bored myself

Hello.

My tomatoes taste horrible and seeing as they are the reason I started all this well...bit of a pain. Will stick with them and then think of something. Have now started some broad beans and onions in the old compost. The seeds were very cheap so no problem if they don't work. but something for me to tend over winter. The spinach is coming along.

I am trying to change how I eat. We eat fairly healthily and although we have the odd treat and takeaway we usually avoid processed food. However my metabolism cannot compete with my teen son's and changes are needed. I am not a natural cook so to contemplate cooking totally different meals is not the best option. And I did a lot of that when caring for my mum. So I need subtle changes.
At the moment I am reducing my fat intake. I love cheese and that is a big downfall. But if I reduce not eliminate it from my diet I may win that battle.
...I had written more about this then realised how bored I was writing it so can imagine reading it is even harder.
I made lemon chicken and we loved it. Had fat free natural yog instead of mayo. it's a start. Just got to watch I don't substitute it all with sugary stuff. If I don't tell myself its a diet I may just get away with it.

Concise diet info - that was much better.

I love to read the ins and out of lives on blogs, the more detail of regular stuff the better. Especially when accompanied by pics. But the minute I try to write about my mundane my brain tunes out. Bullet points could be my way forward.

Well at least I didn't mention Bake off in this post.

ps
never got the job I interviewed for, big shame as it's the first one I left the interview really excited by.

  1. Its not a diet its a lifestyle change :-)
Why not try your tomatos in a salsa or inclued them in a sauce, I am not a lover of raw toms on there own but I can eat them with other things, when I was a kid we use to have tomatoes dipped in sugar, so perhaps you should try a little stevia sweetner with them, you could even have a go at growing your own stevia.

    1. That's only the 2nd time I have ever heard of eating tomatoes with sugar, the 1st was on Saturday. Not a big lover of sugar (apart from in its disguise as choc) x

  2. I couldn't live without cheese!
    Hello!
Sorry about the job - I'm struggling to find one, too.
My tomatoes aren't so great this year, either. I'm making a lot of salsa. Unfortunately my eggplants are all gung-ho, and I really don't even like them!

    1. Hello. I have tried buying strong tasting cheese in the hope I would eat less of it. Nope.
Had to look up egg plant, can never remember if its aubergine or courgette. I had a run on eating them a few months ago but never grown one. Courgettes went mad this year and still have a massive one in the fridge.
Good luck with job hunting x

  3. Hi and many thanks for following me.
We eat very healthily but, now and again, I have a real need for bad things!!!!
My mantra is everything in moderation which has kept me in good stead.
Sorry about the job but keep applying …. I'm sure that you'll be successful. XXXX

    1. Hello. The moderation thing is right, not that I always stick to that either. Why do bad things always taste the best x

  7. The job for you is out there somewhere, While you are looking for it you can try those subtle changes. My tomatoes are still green, I see chutney in my future although I did not intend to make any more. Perhaps a brown paper bag with a banana in it will help ripen some, I roast them with a few cloves of garlic and then blitz and sieve to make a concentrated sauce, it freezes well. I have cut out cheese and am dreaming about cheese toasties.

    1. I tried the paper bag and banana but the skins have gone funny. They seem to be ripening on the window ledge a bit now. I just read that roasting recipe and wondered whether to try it. Will do now. Am waiting for my son to go back to school before I do chutneys as he cannot tolerate the smell of vinegar. I would live on cheese toasties x

  8. I didn't get the job I went after either, bummer isn't it? I wrote about it on my blog, you may have seen it. Turns out there was a bit more skulduggery afoot to do with not getting mine then I first thought. But anyway let's be positive, maybe there's something better waiting for both of us.

  11. You don't really say what you want to change your diet to. Have you seen Rick Stein's Indian series? Apart from the wonderful filming, he includes quite a few veggie dishes which I find extremely appealing and have tried. I'm not giving up my meat eating habits, but really simple dals and pulse-based curries are fabulous (and cost nothing).

    1. I think I'm still figuring it out. I want to reduce fat and portion size but the rest I'm not sure about. I will look at your suggestions as that sounds very interesting and I would like to reduce my meat intake but without being veggie again. Thanks x
